Leah's Favorite Things

Hobbies- Besides the obvious Drag Racing and website building, I love to listen to music with Dan, play with the dogs and do crafty stuff like paint and scrapbook.  I am a long time collector of records and CDs.  I also love to shop at antique stores to find stuff for my 50's diner kitchen and ski lodge style living room.  We also enjoy going to lots of car shows and going out to the lake in our boat.

Education - 2 years Eastern Michigan University, Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Management from Arizona State University

What do I do? - After 12 years working in radio as a disc jockey for stations such as KUKQ, KUPD, KSLX and KZON, I retired from radio in 2000.  I am now a faculty associate  for the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Communications at Arizona State University.  I am the Professional Advisor for ASU's student run campus radio station- KASC The Blaze 1260 AM.  I work daily with the student directors to ensure a professionally run radio station and a learning environment for the students working there.  As a Faculty Associate , I teach JMC 394 Station Operations, a course aimed for upper division Broadcasting students who wish to receive credit for working at The Blaze or the campus TV station Sun Devil Television.  I lecture the course twice a week.  I also teach MCO 191, a course to introduce Freshman to the world of Media.  I am hoping to one day go back to school to get my Master's degree in Broadcast Management which will  including my Teaching Degree.

Favorite Bands - The Posies, Gin Blossoms, Matthew Good Band, Sloan,The Katies, Our Lady Peace,  Toad the Wet Sprocket, Jellyfish, Eye Eye, Haywire, Cutting Crew, Platinum Blonde, Glass Tiger plus Old faves like Loverboy, INXS, REO Speedwagon, & Cheap Trick.  I am known for being an encyclopedia of Canadian music.  I also have a large collection of music from the Tempe music scene.

Collections - I am quite a pack rat and collect way to many things like- Converse shoes, old lunchboxes, anything Speed Racer, anything Archies, NHRA die cast cars, turtles, Star Wars toys, metal pins, ice cream memorabilia, 50's kitchen items, cookie jars, Record albums, 45's and CD's, and selective music memorabilia. Dan collects old Fisher Price pull toys, Marvin Martian items, comic books and CARS.

Favorite TV Shows - Not many, but I never miss NHRA races, Young and Restless (guilty pleasure) and music documentary shows especially Bands Reunited.

Favorite NHRA Racers - Mike Dunn, Mark Oswald and Bruce Allen since I was a teenager!  I always root for Larry Dixon, Del Worsham, Dean Skuza and the Snake Funny Cars.
