Re-doing the Back Half of
Leah's 1969 Camaro
Nov 20, 2003 -  April 2, 2005
Complete construction and design done by Travis Collins
Welder - Dan Collins

After years of traction problems and a pass that headed towards the centerline, Leah decides to give up the notion that a street car can run 11.00's.  Ladder bars are purchased, Travis Collins is requisitioned to back half the car.

A few tears are shed seeing the floor and back seat removed from the owner's "baby".  No question, I wouldn't trust anyone else to perform this magic, designing a back half just for Big Red, than Travis Collins who is very talented with fabricating.

Dan says "It's a big hole and it's gonna get bigger".

The new ladder bar cross member is tacked in place.

Just another picture of that big hole

Travis says this is the most important part of the car, "if its straight, the car will go straight!"

Here are the rear frame rails.  Eventually there will be straps located between here for the fuel cell mount.

Another angle of the rear frame rails.

And another....

Here is day 3 with the addition of X brace.  We decided to keep it low, to keep driver's vision clear.

Here are the rear frame rails with bars from the main hoop and braces.

That's it, that's pretty much the frame. All that is left is tying the back to the front sub-frame and mounting the body.
Stay tuned for the next installment!!
